METALSMITHING : TORCHERE
Commissioned by a church in Minnesota to design and build 8 torcheres within the principles of the Arts & Crafts movement : hot forged steel, hammered copper and removable oak posts (2009).
The overall style and direction was determined by an architect who then requested Chris to develop the nuances and build the torcheres. The Oak posts were to be removable with the ability to set each post at three different heights to denote specific placement within the church. Over three months, Chris forged the components, assembled and patinated eight floor standing candelabras. A video about the forging process was created for a multi-media exhibition titled Piece Process at the Vine Arts Gallery- Minneapolis, MN. The theme of the exhibition was to reveal the amount of effort involved in completing work that is ultimately unseen in the end.
